Functional Genomics towards Personalized Health Care
4th Biologie prospective Santorini Conference
21-23 September 2008, Santorini, Greece
Functional Genomics towards Personalized Health Care
The Santorini Conference series is devoted to the analysis of genetic and biochemical variations in man and its impact on the origin, prediction, prevention, diagnosis and therapy of human disorders particularly cardiovascular diseases. 2006 has seen the third in a series of successful Santorini meetings. The first event, held in 2002, was opened by Jean Dausset's notes on predictive medicine and a lecture by Klaus Lindpaintner on the "Impact of Genetics and Genomics on Health Care". The second conference, in 2004, had Doug Wallace's opening lecture on "Mitochondrial DNA Diversity in Health and Disease" as one of its notable highlights. The third conference, held in 2006, focused on the identification of novel molecular biomarkers as enabled by "Omics" approaches (Patrice Milos and Giulio Superti-Furga). The fourth conference planned for 2008 will focus on understanding individual predisposition and developing personalized health and treatment (be it pharmaceutical or nutritional) using the concept of systems biology.
